In spite of works more specialised in tone, a Sailor's Odyssey remains a book I have read three times. I refer to it as the subject seems to be well informed, especially about his tenure of the Mediterranean Fleet command from 1939 to March, 1942. He's a gentleman, and has no axes to grind as he coped as well as possible with the many misfortunes of the period. There's also wealth of information on "torch" and "Husky". A well-mannered memoir from one of the more well-mannered and skilled killers of the war.… (more)
