Number One takeaway from this book: There's no fuckin' way I'm doing a Ph.D. Not from lack of interest, and not because I can't handle the possibility of failure, and not because I can't handle going through some grinding torment before eventual success, but dude, when there's very little chance of success and even relative success means no end to the torment of managed academe - when, in other words, the choices after five years and umptythousand dollars are failure or endless purgatory . . .
