The cliffhanger annoyed me. I don't feel like this relationship has enough substance to be a trilogy. They basically just bone all the time. He's an asshole and she's a doormat. I liked a lot of the themes but didn't feel invested enough to continue the series. Message me if you know who's trying to kill Dawn and why.

Traumatized and scarred heroine, so of course I liked it. Would have liked a bit more angst, though, if I was being honest.

This book was really slow until about 60% through the book, but then it picked up and I began to enjoy it. The hero and heroine were both solid, flawed characters that had growth to do and we get to see it by the end. I know there is a lot of hate toward Alyce, but I think it is important to remember that she was pregnant and that added to her emotional outbursts as well as influencing how she emotionally responded to everything that was happening to her (on top of already having a very strong personality). On that note, I also felt like the sex scenes were so impossible and inaccurate for her being 6 months pregnant that it really pulled me from the story. Even though I started out doubting the romance, which seemed more like lust to me than anything else, by the end they had really grown and I was satisfied with where they were at.

Absolutely intrigued

[spoilers ahead]

It was a short prequel but it did leave me hanging for more, although I probably can hazard a guess regarding one of the mysteries.

The story introduces us to a mysterious curse and 3 sisters. Bliss is the eldest, the protector and healer; Elysia is more sensitive and sensible; Annis is beautiful and fiesty. It is evident from the prequel which sister will be paired with which hero for the next books but I cannot wait to read the third book about Bliss and Rannick and the author always saves the best til last.

I really enjoyed the banter between Annis and Brogan who will have their own story unfolding in book 2 and it will be interesting to know about Saber’s story and how Elysia will fare.

It is superbly written - great characters, suspense and romance.

Strange. Compelling. Enticing.’

I was looking forward to this book, its the final of the trilogy and it doesn’t disappoint.
An amazing book, well worth the read. The book has drama, love, action and there is a mystery involved which hooks you in as you continue to read.

Interestingly, it is not a long book (although I would preferred it to be longer) but the benefit of that is the story doesn’t linger and the narrative moves quite quickly, leaving you gripping more and more.

There are spoilers ahead, you have been warned.

Storyline:
The story centers on Raven and Wolf, both have been wed to one another out of convenience. Each married for their own reason but both have assumed that the other proposed this alliance, nonetheless they both are honor-bound to fulfill their promise of staying wed. Raven has evaded Wolf for 5 years, she finally has returned home but Wolf has come to collect, and Raven leaves with him without a protest. They arrive at Wolf’s home and from there begins the battle of wits. Raven continues to defy her husband because she is a strong-willed and an independent woman and Wolf tries to tame her, albeit unsuccessfully. They are attracted to each other however, they consider each to be an enemy. Eventually, trust begins to grow and from there love blooms. Theres is also the mystery of Brynjar and his true intention as well as the attempts on Raven’s life.

The story was good, it didn’t drag but kept moving. I really liked the mystery and intrigue that keeps you guessing and puzzling over but that twist was wow, I did not see that coming i.e. Brother Noble’s identity.
The relationship between Raven and Wolf was great, once they consumate their vows, things start to change between them. I would have liked to have seen more chemistry and conflict between them before they started having sex regularly and often (which I thought was unrealistically alot). It felt too quick for them to go from enemies to being in love, needed more angst, tension and development. However, because the book is not long the story develops quickly and moves fast. The love scenes are well done and H and h sizzle in those parts.

Characters:
Raven - I liked her, she is strong, skilled, and self-sufficient, fiercely loyal to those she loves and she loves with a passion. I liked how she is direct, doesn’t beat around the bush and has a sharp mind. She is very intelligent, intuitive and cunning. She also craves stability, happiness and love.

Wolf - I liked him, he is strong, protective and sharp. However, I would have liked to see more of him with regards to his ferocity, he needed something more - he is known to be this beast, feared by all but he isn’t i troduced like that. He shares similar traits as Raven and both think alike.

Supporting cast were great, it was nice to see the characters from previous books - they have a family reunion at the beginning of this book which is good. It was nice to see that Raven’s band of men get their happily ever after too.

There were moments in this book that echo realities of life which I found to be profound such as:
1) to hide your vulnerability you wear a mask - “let the mask slip and you become vulnerable”
2) trust is earned
3) communication helps to clear misunderstandings and builds trust
4) being loyal to those that you love and protecting them
5) not to be naive, knowing the true nature of man.

There were some words/moments of wisdom in this book which are profound making you pause for thought.

Overall a very good read - the author doesn’t disappoint and has produced another great trilogy.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any historical romance fans who don’t mind some minor sex (nothing X rated or graphic). But I thought that Warrick, the hero, and Adara, the heroine, were very well developed. I had very clear pictures in my mind of what they looked like while I read. And their histories were alluded to, possibly more than necessary, to explain their actions, motivations, goals.
The did not see the ending coming. Perhaps I’m blind - but nope, didn’t. Went in a completely different direction.
If any complaints, Adara’s obstinate refusal to see Warrick’s constantly more caring, gentle, protective behavior and attempt to meet it even halfway, really began to annoy the crap outta me. I realize her past sucked but ‘actions speak louder than words’ and you’ve got to put on your big girl panties and jump.

Craven and Esby.
Craven thinks Esby is responsible for his wife and child's death and he is horrible to her.
I like it when hero's need redemption because they act stupidly at the start but Craven treads of fine line of going to far and being too cruel.
I am still not too sure I like him.
Good plot, mystery and story though.

The book starts with him leaving the bed of an unknown woman.
There are no intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine but it is made abundantly clear to the reader and his wife that he has had sex with countless women in his absence.
I know they were different times and the Hero and heroine don't know if each other have survived during the separation but still.
The heroine of course is still a virgin.
The Hero if we can call him that is now a dark chap after his time away after all he endured but he is so awful to the heroine.
She does stand up to him at times but then melts at his touch.
I won't be reading anymore of this series.
HEA.
Epilogue.

I received this book in a giveaway. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Captured on her way to her sister, Willow finds herself in a precarious situation. When her jailer decides to throw her in a hole with a naked man, things go from bad to worse. Slatter is currently on the losing end of his back and forth battle with a man named Beck. He's been planning to escape but when an innocent woman is thrown into his jail with him, he knows he must stay to protect her.
Willow thinks she knows Slatter but lies, revenge, and the truth are all about to be revealed.

“A woman only belongs to a man if she’s wed to him. So if you want to leave here with her, you’ll wed her,”

Second in the Macardle Sisters of Courage Trilogy, I would highly suggest reading the first. The story begins right away with the action, Willow being kidnapped, and I had no idea the who and whys of the situation. There was other background information that would have been helpful, character motivations and how they were all tied together, by family or enemies. There was also an overuse of the word “poke” (sex), it was used 22 times with the second and third chapter, that became extremely tiresome and redundant to read. I personally like to see emotional/mental growth in my leads romance before the sexual occurs and this had Slatter giving Willow an orgasm within the first three chapters. This put me in the mindset that the story was going to be steamier but the tone changes and the sexual aspect actually doesn't really appear until later in the story, this made the beginning feel even more separate from the rest.

The war between Slatter and Beck, was confusing for me and I didn't understand their connection and animosity (maybe something I missed from not reading the first) and when the story moves on to Willow and Slatter at her brother's, it is forgotten for while in favor of a different one, involving characters thinking Slatter is a lying, adulterous, killer. The author keeps Willow and Slatter together through a forced marriage and they move to caring for each other and suddenly not wanting to get divorced very quickly. Willow and Slatter try to convince everyone that someone who looks exactly like Slatter is impersonating him and that guy is the true villain. This story thread also left me confused and not feeling it was fully fleshed out, again, characters and reasons felt left out.

“A husband sees to his wife’s care. I am your husband and I will be your husband until I am no more.”

I really think if you read this series in order, you would get more out of it. You'd have the foundation for the three sisters each book centers, the hows, whys, and character relationships. The first sister isn't shown in this but the third and youngest sister, Snow, has a teased enemies-to-lovers romance with the Lord of Fire, someone wanting Slatter dead for supposedly killing one of his warriors.

As a new reader to the series I was lost on character relationships and didn't fully grasp storylines. There was an interesting revenge plot but with the other threads going on, especially the whole Slayer, a man who mysteriously appears when you ask for his help in killing the “unjust”, mystery that felt tagged on in the end and didn't land the shock or emotional impact it should have. I ended up feeling lost for most of the story and never really connected with Willow and Slatter's romance.

I enjoyed this short romance. I voluntarily chose to review this short story. It was interesting but was too centered on sex. The story lost some of it's appeal but addressing being mute brought some other things to light. While not for the under 18 readers, it was a little different.

Pretty good story. Some of the dialogue got repetitive before the hero and heroine 'did it'. Should have had an epilogue.

Love the Iron age time period this is set in, was fresh and intriguing as the majority of historicals published are regency and Victorian. Besides the clothing and looks of our characters I would have liked a bit more to the details of the time period so I could enjoy it more.
I rounded up because of the different setting and the fabulous cover, lol, but this road romance had a lot of rinse and repeat to it. Paine and Anin traveling, danger, Anin scared and/or needs to be rescued, and ending with Anin hugging Paine. This happened over and over, I found myself wanting to skim and skip.
The time period makes this fresh but the romance is a bit insta and the repeating danger then hugs, made this road romance a little dragging.

It is not until 60% into the story the hero realizes the 12yr old boy he is traveling with and has a great friendship with is a woman and only because he is told.

SENSUALITY RATING:
YES Profanity; a “damn” here or there but nothing excessive;
YES, minor descriptive Sexual Encounters within the bonds of marriage i.e. “her slick, tight sheath”.

GENRE: Historical Scottish Romance

SETTING: Home of Clan MacVarish.

CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: ADARA – Petite; Recluse; Frightened little mouse but with a smile that softens the heart.

CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: WARRICK the Demon Lord – Roars deep; Keeps his troops inline; Lays down the law and follows through with the punishment if laws are broken; the most feared of all Warriors.

SYNOPSIS: Adara continues to shy away from anyone except Epsy of the Clan MacCara. She is discovered by the Demon Lord and returned to her home. Warrick, the Demon Lord will take possession of Clan MacVarish and all of Adara’s people. But, WHO IS TRYING TO KILL WARRICK and why?

WHAT I LIKED: Callie is hilarious and the perfect person to get under the Demon’s skin.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: Though I understand why Adara being hard-headed was necessary to the plot, I still find it annoyingly annoying.

RATING: (4) stars BECAUSE confusing with regards to what happened 1st, 2nd, 3rd, i.e.., Time period in dungeon; On the run; Time spent with an Uncle; Became a servant; Marriage. What am I missing? Otherwise, the plot pulled me into the contrast between an insecure woman and the roar of the Demon. A twist on Beauty and the Beast, “Highlander” style, with no hint of a fairytale.
