Teen mermaid Thala just wants to swim free in the ocean. Instead she is confined to her Uncle's cliff top home and a small protected stretch of water. All she knows is that her parents disappeared on her fifth birthday, that there is an unknown enemy, that she along with her younger cousin and uncle are the last of their family, she is allowed no contact with humans, and that one in three mermaids are able to breed and she may be one of them! Struggling with loneliness and knowing that information is being kept from her, Thala is happy to learn of an upcoming visit from a rival pod of Mermen. It turns out their visitors are also interested in finding out what her Uncle has been keeping secret. When they plan to use this information to face an ancient alien enemy living in secret at the bottom of the earth's oceans, Thalia will not be left behind!

A mermaid story with a strong and determined female protagonist. I enjoyed how Goldie weaved in the enemy's story which gave the story a well rounded quality. A nice easy read, well done.… (more)
