Representation: N/A?
Trigger warnings: Military violence and war themes, death of a man in the ocean on-page
Score: Five points out of ten.

Very depressing, but very real. It would've been better if a refugee wrote an account of their experience rather than a white man.

This is about a man that arrives to an island where the citizens are afraid of letting him stay, however the fisherman convinces them to let him stay in exchange of cheap labor. The innkeepers were always afraid of the strange man's different ways to behave and be even though he was not doing anything wrong. The misconceptions were so many that they decided to put him in his raft and send him back to the sea. The citizens of the island then decide to build a big wall around the island so that no other strangers can come into the island ever again. This is a book I would use in the classroom because it represent how society behaves against other people that are different or come from different places, for example, immigrant people that are forced to do hard work for others and treated badly. There is much to learn from this story.… (more)

This is a great example of how if you are not a part of a population you could be met with hostility. This books shows how some places are not accepting of immigrants and treat them so mean and anyone who tries to help them.

The limited words in the book is adding more to the already muddled story. The main take away from the book would be foregniers coming to another country and more or less being mistreated. For the symbolism and the story can be interpreted in different ways is being added to my classroom.
