Took me way too long to get around to reading this, but I'm glad I finally did! The beginning was a little odd and I think it would have thrown me off if it weren't for the fact I was on an airplane and had no other books to read at the time, but for anyone who does have other options I encourage you to push through because it gets good.

Bad Eminence is written in a very unique style that lends it's self perfectly to the subject matter. Our main character Vanessa is a different kind of woman then you normally read about and I loved every bit of it. She says it like it is and will correct you when you don't say it like it is. There are cocktail recipes, and extensive vocabulary words, French dialogue and sarcasm galore.

Overall I recommend this book for people who love reading. It's really a "you had to read it to understand" kind of book.

Tedious, self-indulgent, self-important, and frankly, boring. The self-importance was a feature, and I felt that there could have been better ways to portray that in a way that didn't make me want to hate the author and his prose. On paper, this should have been a book I loved, but I just hated it.

I received this book for free through LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program. When the summary for the book said that the narrator/main character was misanthropic, that was an understatement! The concept for the book was engaging, and the story itself, very well-written. I could absolutely feel the disdain and contempt that the narrator would have for me on nearly every page. Unfortunately, for that reason, I couldn't finish it. In a way, it felt like she wouldn't have wanted me, or someone like me, to read such personal details of her life. I felt very uncomfortable about the whole thing. Hopefully, someone else out there will find it all fascinating in a way that I couldn't.… (more)
