Ann Wesley Hardin

I picked this one on the strength of a 94 rating from Mrs Giggles... and found the story flat, the characterisation colourless, and the jokes that tickled Mrs Giggles non-existent. About the only point on which I'd agree with her is the number of so-called 'hot' scenes. The two main characters copulate like bunnies and it gets boring after the third or fourth explosive orgasm.

The 'mystery' behind this story is revealed in the prologue, so the reader is left to watch the protagonists work their way towards the solution. About 60% of the way through I'd had enough. I was hoping the two protagonists would hurry up, get hitched, and drive off into the sunset. By that time I'd completely lost interest in the back story introduced in the prologue.

Lots of references to the Apollo moon programme but a singular lack of technical knowledge. Belonging to the generation that followed the return of Apollo 13 in real time, factual goofs are fatal. Sheesh, even if the author didn't experience Apollo 13, she could at least have watched the movie.

Conclusion: Mrs Giggles and I don't see eye to eye on this and many other books.… (more)
