This a sweet, incredibly funny, and lighthearted romance with no explicit content, featuring a strong female main character and an impoverished baron who, refreshingly, isn't your typical aristocratic hero.

While the plot leans heavily on the miscommunication trope, which isn't my favorite, I still had a lot of fun reading it!

The “hunting” scene is my favorite from the book!

When Lucy Bateman decides to pull a prank on Matthew Harrison, the man she is betrothed to but has never met, it backfires very seriously. Matthew runs away and can’t be found. Lucy happens upon him in another town working as a cart driver and decides to get to know him incognito. This is a fun Victorian romantic tale which I enjoyed, although at times I found I had to suspend belief. The characters were entertaining and engaging, and the story is well-written. This is an easy-to-read, clean and wholesome book.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Oh my swooniness! There Goes the Groom is a new favorite by Esther Hatch. Hidden identity, a seemingly harmless prank, arranged marriage, grumpy/sunshine, and one of the hottest kisses ever! This now full length clean, Victorian romcom brings even more romance, character growth, and delightful hilarity. I loved Matthew & Lucy and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

Matthew Harrison’s set to become a Baron. Unfortunately, he needs to marry for money. His family’s arranged a marriage for him, but when he meets his bride she appears to be nothing more than a child. Unwilling to go through with the marriage, he runs away, changes his identity, and becomes a cart driver.

Not thrilled with the idea of an arranged marriage, Lucy Bateman enlists her much younger sister to meet her future groom for the first time. Her harmless trick backfires though when her betrothed runs away without a word. Three years later when Lucy discovers Matthew working as a cart driver, she decides to play one more trick to get to know the elusive man and convince him to come home and marry her.

I adored this book! Lord Bryant just might have to take a backseat because there’s a new hottie to contend with. Matthew may be quiet and a bit grumpy, but still waters run deep and his kind, hardworking, attractive personality shines through. Lucy is absolutely delightful and hilarious. Her scheme to get to know Matthew was so much fun and involves rainstorms, mud, an uncooperative goose, a horse shed, and some of the most swoony moments ever!

All the stars and recommendations for this enjoyable, sigh inducing romance! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
