I kept this book from a college history course because I like to re-read it now and then. Herzstein has a very clear writing style making his account of the Nazis and Hitler very enjoyable to read.

2668 Henry R. Luce: A Political Portrait of the Man Who Created the American Century, by Robert E. Herzstein (read 23 Oct 1994) This only covers Luce from birth to 1945. It is a journalistic endeavor, poorly written, and with no organizing viewpoint. I have read worse books, but not many. It deals with a period that fascinates me--1923 to 1945--but it is so shallow (despite evidence of much research) and reading it was really a total waste of time, though I did learn some interesting things which either I never knew or had forgotten--e.g., that Wendell Willkie drank too much and that he was a delegate to the 1924 Democratic Convention… (more)
