About the Author

James Holland is the author of Big Week, The Rise of Germany, and The Allies Strike Back in the War in the West trilogy, as well as Fortress Malta, Dam Busters, and The Battle of Britain. Holland regularly appears on television and radio and has written and presented the BAFTA shortlisted show more documentaries Battle of Britain and Dam Busters for the BBC, among others. James Holland’s The Savage Storm: The Battle for Italy 1943 is an outstanding addition to the literature on the Invasion of Italy and is a different approach and more personal than Rick Atkinson Day of Battle. Holland focuses on a series of individuals in command, line officers and soldiers and civilians from the U.S., U.K, Canadian, Anzac, Germany, and Italy. The following of the same individuals provides both command level and personal experiences from all levels to the history.

A 4.5 star book that comes in under 600 pages of reading, Holland provides a needed addition to the literature on the first portion of the Italian campaign.… (more)
