The author is certainly familiar with the biblical corpus, as the book is constructed of taking as many of the pieces of the history and setting as possible and inverting them to see if a coherent tale could still be made. A side entertainment was just keeping track of all these inversions. The story was at times crude and gratuitous, somewhat limiting its audience, With the background and understanding noted, it was a fun romp of a book, showing off good story-telling skill.

Being retired Army myself, I found this story brought back many memories. It was a very interesting read, and provokes many feelings for what is experienced in war. But, this is not merely a war story, it's more a story of life and choices. This story may just provide you with a different perspective than you begin with. I would highly recommend it for all!

I found this book exciting and action packed. The author packs a great punch.
This was well written and with emotion at times also. I was lucky to have the opportunity to review this book from Librarything.
This book traces the life the life of Mack Shannon, from an orphaned child and the rags to riches story ending up as head of a major organisation. He was a survivor. This was some journey, a real page turner.
An author to look out for.

A collection of short stories taken from the author's experiences in Vietnam. The stories gives the reader the divergent emotions that the Rangers had to contend with while they were in the combat zone. From setting up a listening post out in front of the main force to the relaxing hours in camp when every thing can be changed by the pulling of a trigger of a weapon that the safety is off on. Mr Holmen tells five very interesting and captivating stories about the way things were in the Vietnam War. A very good and interesting read. Thank you for your service.… (more)
