Thoroughly enjoyable, as were the rest in the series. New characters, personal conflicts, work and families brought together with excellent and compelling writing. Read it too quickly really and now have to wait for the next in the series.

I love all her Cumbria crime series (Kelly Porter), and have also thoroughly enjoyed her military police series so far. This standalone thriller really kept me guessing to the end. Excellent read. A lot of characters fit together very well indeed and not too much of the police side of things. Recommended.

This is the first time I've encountered DI Kelly Porter, her team, and her very interesting family and their connections. Despite that, the story works well and I had no feeling of missing anything. Besides, I delighted in all of the forensics in relation to the bodies (retired nurse here).
What are the odds that two of her school classmates had been murdered in the same way over 20 years apart and discovered only a couple of days apart?
Great read! I plan to dive into earlier books in series.
I requested and received an EARC from Canelo Crime via NetGalley. Thank you!

Like a lot of the books I've been reading lately - this started off slow but I came to really enjoy it. The story initially starts with three storylines but it became more interesting as the storylines became entwined. The fighting between Kelly and her sister seemed a bit juvenille for a thirty something woman but family. The mystery was interesting and I loved Gabriela. Kelly was alright. The villains of the tale are more fleshed out than the main cast, it wasn't until near the end any of the main cast were distinguishable in any way. But while not big on character development, the book is big on procedural goodness and faithfully recounts the trail of every lead and tips to wrap up the mystery in a nice pretty bow. Solid 3.5 stars. I rounded down to three stars because it annoyed me that Gabriela wasn't taken into police custody. If you have a case where all the witnesses keep going missing and are presumably dead - why wouldn't you protect the witnesses you do have. Seemed like a major oversight and it annoyed the crap out of me. … (more)
