This is the best of the introductions to Zizek. Like a Zizekian tome, it examines his understanding of the Western subject from a series of different themes - feminism, materialism, postmodernism, etc. In doing so, it makes a case for Zizek as an original thinker in his own right, as opposed to a mere interpreter of Lacan, which is not something I would have said of him before reading Myers. What I really liked about the book though is that while I have read many, if not most, of Zizek's books, there were still a few areas that I was unsure of, areas such as the non-sublatable dialectic, about which Zizek seems unnecessarily opaque but which Myers makes readily accessible without dumbing down. Finally, and unlike most of the other Routledge Critical Thinkers, it is actually a good read too.… (more)
