Probably the most useful part of the book is the tear-out map of Sydney which I made use of extensively. The information the book provides on sights, monuments and must-see places is exceptional, however the material on eating, accommodation and shopping dates quickly. Sydney is also undergoing major changes in its public transport infrastructure, so the information in that area in this book will rapidly become obsolete. Considering I had been to Australia several times before it still proved a very useful book as this was my first Xmas & New Year in Sydney, so knowing where to go in the awful "rain"! of Christmas Day and massive crowds at New Year was a boon. My only criticism is the exorbitant PRICE: 34.99 Aussie dollars is just RIDICULOUS. Lonely Planet need to look at their overheads because they will price themselves out of the market if that's the general level of their pricing!

My only complaint was that I couldn’t figure out the organization. Unless I missed it, there wasn’t an initial table of contents, just shorter content pages for each section, which is considerably less helpful. I’m not exactly sure what would have been better, but it seemed to me that the arrangement of the sections was less than ideal. Still, I have a handful of pages filled with notes I jotted down while reading, so I’d recommend this guidebook as a helpful one.… (more)
