This book discusses whales and evreything about them. It is good for younger children because it has big pictures and not too many words. It could be a great starting point for a unit being taught on whales, making it useful to older elementary school children too.

This book was Arnold Lobel's first book (the illustrations are his). A little boy tags a young salmon, and the author relates Red Tag's journey back to the stream where he hatched. Willing suspension of disbelief might be necessary for an adult, but to a child who believes all is possible, the reunion of Red Tag and the boy makes perfect sense and is deeply satisfying. This book is a good choice for a kindergarten reader. The text goes beyond simple sentences and CVC words, but there are few impossible words and mostly familiar ones. My five year old read it in several sittings, with help.… (more)
