Ok, it's fun. For some reason I went into it thinking "Scooby Doo," but definitely not Scooby Doo. Is it a brilliant work of literature? No, but it's an enjoyable read that flows well and keeps you entertained.

I requested an advance reading copy of Creeples! from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program because I liked the cover and the description. The prologue is set at Lindow Moss Bog, in Cheshire, England, in 1938. It would be a good prologue for a horror movie.

The rest is set in the present day. After reading the first paragraph of chapter one, chapter two made me laugh. Our three main characters are Johnny 'Spigs' Spignola, Theresa Ray 'T-Ray' Rogers, and Pablo 'Peabo' Torres. They are new students at the Aberdasher Academy of [Weird] Science. Spigs has two reasons to be glad to attend this boarding school: he loves alternative/fringe/weird science and he'll be getting away from his abusive Aunt Gussy. T-Ray has a loving family that drives her nuts. Her mother and sister want her to be able to be "normal" and "fit in". T-Ray is an individualist who is interested in science and couldn't care less about fitting in. She wants to learn so she can help her little sister, who has a health problem. Peebo has a large and loving family who are very proud of him for being accepted at such a prestigious school. Peebo has already skipped a grade, so he's younger than the rest of the kids in his year. Peebo loves technology. His family hopes he'll make at least one friend. Experienced readers will not be surprised that Spigs and Peebo become roommates.… (more)

It's rare that I don't finish a book, but I just couldn't finish this one. I loved the idea of the plot and was really looking forward to reading this. Unfortunately neither myself nor my 7 year old enjoyed it. The plot is a mess, the pacing is off, and we just couldn't get into the story.

I love the idea of this story, but the execution...not so much. It felt very clunky and awkwardly written so it made it a difficult read for me personally. I am an adult who regularly reads middle grade, and I would only recommend this to a person between the ages of 10-12, because after that this book looses it's charm.
