Coven of Ill Repute by S.L. Prater
Eternal Enemies #1

Excellent first book in a new Gothic Romance series that has two immortals battling a creepy castle filled with sinister creatures creeping and crawling about in rooms whose surfaces are being covered by malignant icky substances. Can this duo of young septuagenarian immortals find a way out of the locked castle while trying to figure out who killed the two bodies in the castle with them? It was finding out, that’s for sure!

What I liked:
* Quiet: witch in the local coven, good at solving puzzles, has forensic skills, magical abilities, insects are drawn to her and perhaps her familiars, author, rather taken with Rorick
* Rorick: vampire, detective, was Quiet’s partner solving cases, had a falling out with Quiet a year ago, rather taken with Quiet, learns quite a bit in this book
* The epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter that give perspective to the story and the fantasy world and its beliefs
* The world building and creativity of creatures populating it along with the myths that are shared
* The developing relationship between quiet and Rorick after a truce is called
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* Meeting some of the members of Quiet’s coven
* The twists and turns and conclusion I wasn’t expecting
* That there isn’t a cliffhanger but a hook that has me wondering how “the children” and “the circus” will play a part in book two of the series

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Having to wait for the next book

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Dance with the Dragon Duke by S.L. Prater
Fae Tricksters #5

Delightful addition to a wonderful series ~ returning to this make-believe world was a pleasure and a beautiful escape for me today.

What I liked:
* Tomorrow: Unseelie, small but mighty, illegitimate, inherits a duchy only hers if she marries , cousin wants her dead – he’s second in line, has a few issues to deal, needs a protector, has an affinity with fierce creatures, drawn to Drako, has a secret
* Darko: Duke of the Dead, dragon duke, trickster, unseelie, ancient, feels trouble follows him, seeks redemption, sister (Sora) is a queen, drawn to Tomorrow, wants peace, protective, has a horde, has some magic, difficult backstory, perfect for and with Tomorrow
* Getting to see characters from previous books in the series
* The tiny fae children and what one of them did for someone in the story
* Being able to dislike the bad guys and hope they would get what they deserved
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* Feeling a part of the story and caring about the outcome
* Thinking about and hoping that there will be another book to read in this series
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Reading the last page and wishing I didn’t have to say goodbye to the characters

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Mated to the Mad Marquess by S.L. Prater
Fae Tricksters #4

Another fun romp with two equally matched Fae who make perfect mates!

What I liked:
* Malcolm, Marquess of Reeholm: Fae, over 500 years old, has antlers and a tail, his soul is separate but can merge with him, has never had a true mate, has Vanir and Seelie blood, has magical and other abilities, knows that Hrafn/Raven is his mate when he first meets her, enjoyed getting to know him
* Hrafn/Raven: Fae over 900 years old, warrior in the past, has a demon familiar, guardian of an evil phantom for centuries, feels locked in, being blamed for evil happening in the area, drawn to Malcolm
* Ezra: Hrafn’s familiar, shapeshifter, demon, bonded to Hrafn by blood tie
* Solis: Malcolm’s detachable soul in shadow form, separate from but part of Malcolm, capable of being felt and of touching, sentient, verbal, intriguing
* The development of the relationship and bond between Malcolm and Hrafn and that their mating dance is so different from others – a wee bit more violent and filled with chasing and boy…does Solis add to the love scenes in the bedroom!
* Seeing some characters from previous books and finding out how they are doing
* Clapa: fae “child” with sharp teeth, different language, bloodthirsty at times – do wonder what she will get up to after ingesting what she did at the end of the book
* The “babies” that were not human but added to the story
* That this book was the perfect escape for me today and hoping that there will be another soon
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* What I was meant not to like

King of Tricksters by S.L. Prater
Fae Tricksters #2

Recommend reading Court of Tricksters first before reading this one but also recommend having this one immediately available as soon as you finish the first book in the series! This was a great story and carried on right from where the first book left off.

What I liked:
* Rain: witch, ancient, battle-scarred, empathetic, caring, strong, indomitable, has a demon familiar, communicates with the trees, impressive, intriguing, mate of the Lord of the Lunar Court, left near death at the end of Court of Tricksters, has a dragon to destroy before the end of the book
* Night: Lord of the Lunar Court, Fae, powerful, strong, wise, intriguing man, magic skills, grows to deeply care for Rain, conflicted over his duties as a king and as a mate, caring, has some growing to do before the end of the story
* Bernard: Rain’s familiar, a demon, shapeshifter, protective, mind-link with Rain, made me smile
* Clapa: tiny fairy that plays a big part in this story – loved her interactions with Bernard and others
* The way Rain regained her memories, healed herself, found her sisters, and dealt with the obstacle preventing peace in the region
* The plot, pacing, and writing
* The conclusion and how everything was wrapped up in the end
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Wondering if the author will write more about these characters in the future.
