This book is a historical fiction. It is a western set in western Montana. The "Trailsman" gets throw in with a group travelling by stagecoach to Missoula. They are attacked by the Crow, by white men dressed as Crow, and just a bunch of hired guns. The Trailsman tries to find out why someone wants the group dead and has sex with 2 of the women in the group. He succeeds in getting the group safely into town. I generally like westerns and this one is easy to read. There is plenty of sex and violence, with a little detective work. But I will not be running out to get the next book in the series.… (more)

This story was such a disappointment. For the longest time I thought that it would be the totally unheard of 4-star Pulp Western. Alonzo de Leon – aka the Durango Kid - is a brilliantly created character and each appearance was such a treat. Skye Fargo - the Trailsman - left a lot to be desired in this one. But mostly it was that the story kept veering off into stupid escapades of stupidity, not even derring-do (except for Alonzo), but complete and total 100% guaranteed death to follow situations that just made the book dumber and dumber up until the very end. I typically don't review these pulp Westerns because to me they are all generally just okay reads. They should be quick, entertaining reads; some better than okay, some slightly worse. However, this one started bad and didn't get any better so I have a few words...

Ridiculous story. The whole point of the Trailsman being the Trailsman is that no one can get the better or him, he's the best of the best of the best. But this go-round everything with a pulse gets the better of him. The myth of The Wild West – driven home in this book as well as every Western ever written – is that danger is ever-present, it is lurking around every corner 24/7. In that West, the Fargo in this book wouldn't last ten minutes let alone a day. And that is on top of just a rather dumb yarn to begin with. Disappointing.… (more)

Skye Fargo receives a letter asking for him to track down Glenda Hemmings' husband who left her and their children. Skye is tracked down by members of Cord Blasingame's gang (he is Glenda's husband.) Glenda tells Skye one thing but he is hearing the opposite from those who know Cord. Skye's not sure who to believe until Cord lets his personae drop. Then Skye does what he does best.

I enjoyed this story. It's a quick comfort read for me. Skye is Skye and too many are trying to kill him. Fortunately Skye can take care of himself. He tries to protect others but they don't listen or he's too late to save them. I liked that Skye was able to end the outlaw's reign of terror.

I always look forward to coming back to Skye and his adventures.… (more)
