So an interesting paraquel (?) of Lui Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past (The Three Body Problem). One downside particularly in the early part of the book is how much of it is just “told” with very little action. But this I felt was overcome as the book progressed and the story became more involved and interesting, though there were a lot of jumps in chronology.

ich bin überhaupt nicht in die Geschichte reingekommen. Ich fande den Scheibstil und auch die Erzählweise mit dem Gespräch nicht gelungen und hab mich eher gefühlt als würde ich ein Geschichtsbuch lesen.

This novel weaves together plot points that had no real conclusion in the trilogy and builds into the lacuna there. There are some truly excellent scenes that bring you back into the Remembrance universe, especially in the first half of the book.

This should only be read as a companion piece to the Three Body trilogy, as it does not quite manage to stand on its own. It consists almost entirely of exposition and feels like a collection of deleted scenes from The Dark Forest and Death's End. Still, it's quite fun to see how Baoshu twists and expands on Liu's concepts and ideas.
