My Cat Is Blue by Sarah Sommer is a delightful book for young and old readers alike. It is about a child's cat who is mourning the loss of their best friend. It was a wonderful book to teach families about pet loss and how they may support the remaining animals in the house. We had our little doggie go over the rainbow bridge and our cat suffered just like this poor little fur ball did, I wish I would have had this book at that time. I recommend this book for all families who may be grieving the loss of their little fur ball or gift to someone who may need to hear this message as well. Either way this little gem is a must read.

I would like to thank the author and iRead Book Tours for the review copy in exchange for my honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

My Cat is Blue tells the sweet yet melancholy story of a family’s cat who is sad. Nothing seems to cheer him up. He won’t play with his toys, doesn’t purr, and even rejects his fishy treats, so the family takes him to the doctor in hopes she’ll be able to make him feel better. The doctor discovers the cat is sad from losing the family’s dog and is hopeful that she has just the right remedy.

This story displays the emotions that occur at the loss of a pet or loved one. It’s okay to feel blue for a bit, but surely, being surrounded by those who love you helps you move forward. And the unexpected gift of friendship might be just the thing to lift low spirits.

The illustrations are sweet with emotional expressions playing a gentle role, and the rhyming narration provides a tender cadence and flow. This story of healing from loss is a tender subject. yet delivered in a calm and empathetic way.

I loved this cute hardcover children’s picture book. The story is a lesson in finding and just being yourself. The delightful rhymes will ease anyone’s first day jitters whether you are a child or an adult.

The illustrations are hand-drawn art by Devan. She is a self-taught artist who uses mainly Sharpie markers to create the texture effects. I thought the illustrations of the animals were adorable.

Suggested ages 4-8

This is a cute and funny story that has very good illustrations. I think that young children will find this wonderful. I loved seeing how this child tries to solve a problem. I received a copy of this book from ireadbooktours Fira fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
