Guido Steinberg

Guido Steinberg is with the Middle East and Africa Research Division of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs. He has previously served as Advisor on International Terrorism at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin, and as Research Coordinator at the Interdisciplinary Center Social and Cultural History of the Middle East, Freie Universität Berlin. His areas of expertise are on the political developments in the Arab World and the Gulf region, especially Iraq and Saudi Arabia; Shiites and Sunnis; and Islamism. Currently his research interests are on Iraqi politics, regional implications of the war in Iraq, Saudi Arabian foreign policy, al-Qaida, Islamist terrorism in the Arab east and the Maghreb.
