This is a beautiful book, visually fascinating. The photos of people and documents and objects on every page document Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas as people of a very particular place and time. I love this book. The text is taken from Gertrude & Alice's writing, putting their words into context as well. I don't know why someone would give this a 2-star review, unless they don't like G&A. But if you don't like them, then why post this book here at all? Or why not at least tell why you've given it such a poor review. If you're interested in either Stein or Toklas, or the place and time in which they lived, you will almost surely like this book.… (more)
