middlegrade graphic novel - 8th grader Artie (Artemis) from small town Oregon finds out she is a werewolf; she and her mother descend from a Washington-based clan of wolves. But while werewolves are born in love and fight to protect their families and the innocent, their enemies the vampires generally just kill.

Really good! Beautifully told, wonderful storytelling with an engaging plot.

Sweet! Would 100% rec it for kids and younger teens. I am much too old to be the target audience, but I still enjoyed it.

I thought it was interesting to see how the werewolf lore intersected with African American history and identity, and how the dynamics between vampires and werewolves worked as a metaphor for white supremacy – I thought this was well done for the most part. Also, the strong family relationships (just like a wolf pack) and characters would make it a great recommendation for all young readers, especially black readers looking for strong African American characters.

Desperately trying to catch up on books I've read in 2023, before it turns 2024. Don't think I'll make it. Full review (hopefully) to come later.
