I have two very different opinions on this book. One is the story and the other being the editing.

Let’s start off with the story. It’s fascinating. Did Jesus really turn Mary Mageline’s tears into diamonds that only those with a pure heart can enjoy? That in of itself caught my attention. It brought some mystique into the story and the following occurrences. The fact that the action takes place in Ireland helps with that beautiful, greater than life feeling. While the story deals with religious undertones, it in no way preaches or can be classified as a religious book. No one should be put off by the story topic. The story line was well played out in terms of action and betrayel (although the fact that the love scene happens so quickly after their meeting threw me off). The other part that bothered me were the visions that kept occuring. For a character that had never had any experience with them, he seemed to just accept them as they happened, and moved on with his day. Would have read truer if the author was scared out of his mind.

I wasn’t completely blown away with the book, but I think with some editing work and a reprint, this could turn into a great book.

Now on to the editing: Horrid. And that’s the nicest I can be. I’m not really sure where the blames falls. Some say the authors job is to write and the publishers/editors job is to edit and make sure the book is up to par. Others say, the author is the only one responsible for making sure their own book is free of as many mistakes as possible. Either way, it was a failure. There are those grammatical errors that don’t really stop the flow of reading too much, then there are the rest. This book applies the rest. At times I wasn’t sure someone was speaking until the middle of the paragraph because quote marks were missing.

I understand this is the authors first book, and it is my understanding they are looking for a new publisher. That alone will make his book go up in ranking.
