Obviously I needed to read this book. I bought Mason Judy as a novelty but it actually contains quite a riveting quest story into the Aboriginal myths of the Dreamtime. Mason Judy must return a magical stone to the Father and is tested along the way. Robert Juniper's work as illustrator evokes the surreal landscape in a collage and paintings. As far as children's books go I wanted a bit more integration between text and pictures as they are often separated by the pages which I think would detract from a child's reading experience. Any chance to expose children to other culture's stories and myths seems like a good one to me and Mason Judy is a fun, frightful tale.… (more)
