If one is looking for a comprehensive survey of the Romanian participation in the Great War this is precisely the book for you, as the author considers the convergence of events that led to the Romanian intervention in 1916, the desperate battle for survival through 1917, armistice with the Central Powers in the wake of the Russian collapse, and the participation in the kill, largely provoked by the Entente decision to suppress Bela Kun's government in Hungary; highly recommended.

This is the first book I have come across dealing exclusively with the WWI experience of Romania. There may be others, but I am not aware of any. Any reference to Romania in other history books I have read about WWI is very limited. Basically, the information provided states that Romania entered the war on the Entente side and was quickly defeated by Austro-German forces; very little detail.

Since this book deals exclusively with Romania in WWI a great deal of info is provided. I found the book very informative. Romania did not just 'enter the war and quickly defeated'. Although this may be somewhat true, by virtue of entering the war, dragging out the negotiations with Germany and generally being difficult, Romania was able to tie-down a significant number of Austro-German troops. These troops were badly needed elsewhere by the Central Alliance. Romania also re-entered the war a the very last minute which also required the Central Alliance to retain some troops in the area in anticipation of the reentry.

Over all a very informative book covering a little published piece of the Great War. Recommended.
