Wolfgang Viereck (1937–2018)

Similar in scope to dtv - Atlas deutsche Sprache (and unfortunately with the same miniscule font size), dtv-Atlas Englische Sprache provides a thorough overview of the English language, its history, dialects, forms. There are sections on Canada, the United States, Australia, the Caribbean, Hong Kong etc. as well as a section on the development and emergence of English as a world language. Wonderfully detailed and informative, this handy reference (which is written in the German language though, and assumes fluency in German) is to be recommended to students of linguistics, but even those only casually interested in the English language will likely find dtv-Atlas Englische Sprache a worthwhile, enlightening read.… (more)
