About the Author
Helen Whitney is an acclaimed writer, producer and director who has more than 30 years of experience producing dramatic features and documentary films. Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero, Whitney's best-known film, was a PBS two-hour special on 9/11. Whitney has received many accolades among them an show more Emmy Award, an Oscar nomination, two Alfred I. du Pont Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award and awards from The Writer's Guild of America and The Director's Guild of America. She has served as Director of the Board of Film Forum in New York City. Whitney has been artist in residence at six universities and is a highly sought after speaker. Helen Whitney is significantly more tough-minded that most of the authors in this genera. She does not think that it is always good to forgive. She gives examples in this book of people who find that not forgiving is better than forgiving; people who are devasted by their inability to forgive or at least, get past their anger; people who forgive horrible wrongs; and people who feel persecuted by those eager to make them forgive.
It would have been good to have discussed the nature of forgiveness which, as Whitney acknowledges, has a number of meanings. On the other hand, some of the interviewees made some good points about the nature of forgiveness. They simply aren't comparable, since they may all mean something different.… (more)
