Saw "King Kong" on TV as a kid, and had this moment where I realized that, unlike the other monsters I was familiar with, this wasn't a guy in a suit. Pioneering stop-motion animation, stunning effects for their day, a great story, and the greatest "scream queen" of all time. The sequel lacks the punch of the original, but it's still well made, and it does to perfection the job of taking you back to that magic place in the first film. Mighty Joe Young is another classic, this time with the ape as the good guy and an unforgettable action climax. Stop motion effects were still in their infancy, and there are places where it shows.… (more)
