About my libraryThis list covers recommended books for 4th and 5th grades. You can search by grade, by genre and (sometimes) by topic. Please remember that while some writers, like Lloyd Alexander, tend to write always for the same age and reading level, others, like Judy Blume, write for everyone from 2nd grade through Young Adult. It's worth paying attention to each title. When titles deal with difficult issues such as loss, death or violence, I have tried to include only those titles that I consider age-appropriate. However, please remember that not every book with a grade label is going to be emotionally or intellectually appropriate for every child in that grade. Each child is different: while some love truly scary stories, other will get nightmares from the same books. So this list and the tags are only suggestions or guidelines.
