Hello, Michael.

Thank you, so much. I'd genuinely appreciate the help.

My dad died in early-1981. He was through talking about his war experience
by the mid-fifties, when I was six or seven years-old. So, I have no
reliable secondhand memory of his story. I'm constructing as good a picture
as I can from his military records and what I can find to read.

My son (who's 34, now) asked me, several years ago, what I knew of his
granddad's war experience. And, I realized I didn't know much of anything
about it. That's what set me off on this venture. One o' these days, I'm
going to assemble what I know (including my dad's medals) so my son and
granddaughter can know and appreciate what my dad did.

He served with the 209th Engineer Combat Battalion, Company B. I have a
pretty good picture of his unit's having been pressed into unanticipated
service to hold the Myitkyina Air Strip, contain and eventually take the
town of Myitkyina. Just tonight, I got a link to this website:
http://ledoroad.home.comcast.net/
... which led me to confirm the 209th's involvement in the battles (around
Bhamo) which completed the link of the Ledo Road to the Burma Road. I
recall my dad talking about action around Bhamo ... but, this is just
beginning to come together for me.

I do appreciate your help.

(I tried your email address, but my message bounced back. I must have misapplied the address, some way. Feel free to email me directly, at my gmail address.)
My late dad served with the 209th Combat Engineers in the China-Burma-India theater, October 1943 - August 1945. His unit served under Col. Lewis A. Pick in construction of the Ledo (aka Stilwell, aka Burma) Road. General Stilwell deployed this unit from road-building directly into combat at the Myitkyina Air Strip and for the last three months of siege at the town of Myitkyina. I'm seeking to meet those who may have information about my dad's unit or the Myitkyina battles. Can you help?
