About me"I cannot remember a time when I was not in love with them--with the books themselves, cover and binding and the paper they were printed on, with their smell and their weight and with their possession in my arms, captured and carried off to myself."
---Eudora Welty

About my libraryI've catalogued all our books, and now am working on other bits of our library, which include music (CDs, vinyl record albums (remember those?), cassettes) and movies (VHS & DVD). I've also got magazines and other paper ephemera in here, which I also consider part of our library.

I consider them to be legit additions to one's library. I know some purists bemoan that people add other things besides books, but I think that while LibraryThing was originally intended for books and that remains its main focus, I consider MY LibraryThing catalog to be just that. Mine. Therefore, I am adding what I like. Neener neener. ;-)

Besides which, the books vastly outnumber the music and movies.

I was checking folks who added books recently and tripped on your porfile. Coas!!!! I plan trips to Las Cruces to see family just to go to Coas!!!! My favorite bookstore ever.
I finally got around to War for the Oaks, and loved it. Thank you again!
Hi, I just joined this site. I noticed that you're a Da Vinci Code fan. Have you read Synarchy? Here's a link: www.synarchynovel.com/
May the light of your soul guide you.
by John O'Donohue

May the light of your soul guide you.
May the light of your soul bless the work
You do with the secret love and warmth of your heart.
May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul.
May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light and renewal to those
Who work with you and to those who see and receive your work.
May your work never weary you.
May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement.
May you be present in what you do.
May you never become lost in the bland absences.
May the day never burden you.
May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day with dreams,
Possibilities and promises.
May evening find you gracious and fulfilled.
May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected.
May your soul calm, console and renew you.
I got my books Tuesday and yesterday. I just devoured Ex Libris, and it was wonderful, and War for the Oaks looks fabulous. Thank you!
Cool - glad you like them! I thought I would use the Bookmooch list as a starting point, but when I saw those on there, it was an easy choice! I was only worried that you had gotten to mooch them before the LT ones arrived, so I'm glad you opened them early!!

Happy Holiday(-reading) to you too!!!
Rachael, can you believe I'm just now answering my librarything mail? Ack! But I loved your present. That was such a fun thing to do for Xmas, made me get out of my rut. I can't wait for next year!
Brilliant, glad they got there and that the idea of them at least looks appealing!

Not got my Secret Santa gift yet, but am curious to see what turns up ... it was fun trying to work out choices for you, so I hope you enjoy them both, you'll have to let me know.

Merry Christmas!

Mike
Long story how I got to your page: I was looking at the Santa Thing page, said to myself, "Is that susiebright (username) Susie Bright (author)"? Then saw the book you had listed to buy her, and added it to my books-to-consider-reading-list as it sounded interesting, and then I came here. Saw the comments from... almost two years ago... about the Beauty and the Beast movies. So now I'm wondering what you thought of Robin McKinley's Beauty--I see you rated it 3.5 stars, but no review. I ask because I read it when I was about 10 and what stuck with me is that (if I recall correctly) that library had all books that ever have been or will be written. I've since seen that trope elsewhere but it was INCREDIBLY COOL at the time; nowadays I'd worry about the information science challenges alongside the fantasy....
Rachael,

You're welcome. It's been a pleasure to look at, today. :)
Compliments on a fabulous birthday bookpile - I love it!
Really like your photography collection. Many of them I would love to have on my shelf.
Rachel, yes I'm referring to the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast. (I've never seen the other.) And writng this has made think that I need to add that movie to my shopping list. LibraryThing is dangerous!
Rachel, when you get your fantasy library please invite some of us over to see it. When I went to see Beauty and the Beast and the Beast opened the door to his library, I exclaimed out loud, "Ooooh!" The guy with me broke up laughing, but I still think it's a great fantasy.
Hi Rachael - Isn't Little Nemo wonderful! I think ours will end up lying flat on the lower shelf of the coffee table. It would be grand to display it on an easel, if we had enough room.

We are making a Powell's pilgrimage next weekend. There is, however, a spending limit!
You feel the same way I feel about books, Rachael. And your library dream sounds EXACTLY like mine down to the wooden floors. Nice to meet you! :)
