Judith,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous review. I appreciate the time you took to gather and articulate your thoughts--it's not an easy book to encapsulate, I know. So many thanks.

I wish you the best always.

Hi Jude- I always miss you when you are gone! I see you were reading, while away and I enjoyed your reviews. I've been interested in "The Help", since reading the positive buzz. I know I have been raving non-stop about Mr. Charlie Huston, but now I have to turn my sights on Ken Bruen again. Jude, this guy rules! I just finished his 2nd Jack Taylor book (check out my challenge for the mini-review) and like the 1st, it floored me. You have to read this guy! I have "The Guards" lent out right now but as soon as I get it back, it will be catapulting your way. Hope you are having a fine weekend!

Mark
There are very few guarantees in this life. Thank you for posting the link!

Best,

MFB
Thank you, Judith.

I'm struggling to get the word out about the novel...of course it's not for everyone (or even most people), but I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that it has some merit.

I hope you'll pass the website link on to others--and be sure to catch the excerpt from my next book. You can access it from Cosimo Chiesa's page!

Best always,

MFB
Hi Judith,

Since you seemed to like my novel The Night Battles, I thought you might enjoy its website, which just launched:

I'd love to hear what you think!

Hi Jude- Good morning my friend! Well, I started the Charlie Huston thread, for all the faithful! It's in the Crime & Thriller Group: http://www.librarything.com/topic/76122
This should be a riot! Hope you are having a great weekend!
Mark
Thanks J!

Glad to see you're enjoying the salon. I like Clarissa too btw. But Pamela bugs me
Oh no, Richard be very nice to 'Frique.

You're not a sock puppet of Richard's are you? You are aware of the present sock puppet crisis exploding around here, I hope. Quite entertaining.

Yes, I've been meaning to read more Amis since really enjoying Money awhile back.
Love your pic...but that isn't the reason I am here tonight. I see that you had read [In the Country of the Young] by [Lisa Carey] I haven't yet looked to see how you rated it. I am not that far into and enjoying it so far.
HI There

I'm honored to be invited as your LT friend.

My daughter, son in law and three grandchildren live in Dayton, Beavercreek Ohio. It is a long drive from PA, but I make the trek 2-3 times a year.
Hi Jude- Have you seen "Deadwood"? If not, you are in for a treat. You will never hear profanity spouted so eloquently. I saw you added the book, "Let the Right One in". Did you ever see the film? I mentioned it to you, quite some time ago. It was a masterpiece!! Thanks for the offer on the latest Joe Pitt, very sweet of you but I will be buying that sucker, no pun intended. As a matter of fact, I have to pick up another copy of "Already Dead". I sent mine to Richard. It was getting pretty wore down anyway. If you change your mind about the dvd of Angel Heart, let me know and it won't cost you any books either!
Hope the decorating is going well! Ciao!

Mark
Jude- Thanks for letting me know! I finished "Falling Angel" and enjoyed it very much. Stop by my challenge and check out my mini-review: http://www.librarything.com/topic/72418
I hope to get to the Martin Amis in a couple weeks, if that's ok. Take care friend!
Mark
Jude- It always nice hearing from you! I'm glad you have your own Joe Pitt books, they are must haves! I saw that that the 5th & final one will be released next week, it's called "My Dead Body". Now I have to get to "Every Last Drop", which I have lent out! I'm making a sad face!
Did you see Richard's review on "Already Dead"? It's right on the money! I hope I made him a Huston fan!!
BTW, I'm well into "Falling Angel". It's very good. My kind of hard-boiled noir! Very Chandleresque! I'm surprised I haven't stumbled across it before. Have you read any of his other books? Later friend!
Mark
Oh hell, I know one I've actually been scouring used shops for 8+ months at least: Let the Right One In. I saw the movie w/o knowing it was a book and fell in love. Yes yes yes yes, it's a vampire movie/novel, but it's also something you'd want to ascribe words like "art-house" or "true" or "meaningful" or "deep" or whatever, claiming it has true literary value and isn't just a thriller, nawmean?

I hear the only available translation (original: Swedish) does not do the book service and is quite plain/boring/stale, tho. =/
Thx for your much-too-kind words, sir.

On the subject of vampires, I'm all ears eager to learn some good fiction w/ those bloodsuckers. I can't think of any books besides Dracula and 'Salem's Lot (one of the few King books I've really enjoyed) that I've read...........
Hi Jude- Thanks for the nice note, regarding my review & Steinbeck. He has always been my favorite writer and he was my first "literary author". When we read "Grapes of Wrath" in high school, I was transformed. I never realized writing could be so deep and wonderful. I too love "East of Eden", "Of Mice and Men" & "Cannery Row". I had been neglecting him for a long while, so I wanted to get kick-started by reading something I had never read. I was able to mooch "Tortilla Flat" recently,so that might be my next Steinbeck.
I also loved your comment about your father and his love of Steinbeck.
Did you ever read "In the Woods"? I think you mentioned it before. Well' I'll be starting the follow-up, "The Likeness" and then I plan on "Falling Angel". Nice to hear from you friend!
