She didn't need it since she was probably planning to return home to Chris and Jonathan or Daniel as Mrs. Hughes says his name is.

I think she had to pack up and leave very quickly so the furniture got left behind.

I suppose if it was cheap and secondhand it was no great loss to leave behind.
