Es un relato largo o una novela corta, e inicia un tema que retomaría el autor en varias ocasiones, acabando con Un día de furia. Los franceses en España, los malditos españoles, que los pisabas y se dispersaban como hormigas, buscándote de nuevo las vueltas al poco. Atacando con armas de mierda pero apuntando a la junta de la coraza, donde duele. Curas dando absoluciones a los que salían a degollar franceses. Jabatos. Reverte cuenta la historia desde el punto de vista del enemigo, como también hace en Jodía Pavía, aunque en ese otro relato lo que destaca es el humor y el coñonismo. La historia me encantó. ( )

Andalucía 1808. En el apogeo del poderío militar napoleónico, las tropas imperiales se enfrentan a un ejército de campesinos y guerrilleros. El protagonista de esta novela es un joven subteniente incorporado a su regimiento en vísperas del combate, que no tardará en descubrir que la cruel guerra de España dista mucho de parecerse a las enseñanzas recibidas en la escuela militar
