Ostensibly a children's book, but the text is definitely intended for the older reader. The simple child-like drawings make for an uncomplicated format that is appealing - although photos would have been nice.

The artists chosen for inclusion are truly pioneers and forerunners of today's country music scene. The style and appeal of Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Bill Munroe, Hank Williams, and the Carter Family - just to name a very few - still exert a powerful influence on current country musicians.

I am, in fact, a country music fan and I enjoyed the stories of these artists. Each mini-biography is a page long, but contains a great deal of information concerning each person's beginnings in the industry, development of style, influences on other artists, and later life. I enjoyed it a lot. ( )
