Title: Honor of the Mountain Man (Mountain Man Series #20)
Author: William W Johnstone
Year: 2018
Publisher: Pinnacle Books
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
In my opinion, there is nothing like sitting down and enjoying a good western! Once again, the Johnstone pen has kept me busy reading for hours of enjoyment with one of the most beloved heroes, Smoke Jensen. Smoke and Sally run the Sugarloaf Ranch and have faced their fair share of bandits. Now Smoke is about to answer the call for help from a fellow pistoleer by the name of Joey Wells.
Joey is famous in his own right as readers will learn. He is a man who sought to live a quiet life with his wife and son. They did until bandits from south of the border came and raided their farm, leaving death and wounded behind. Smoke doesn’t like to hear of anyone being overrun by bullies, and together with a couple of his friends, Smoke plans on facing the owner of the Lazy M ranch.
Murdock has hired many men to take over a town and ruin other ranchers. Now Smoke, along with Joey, Cal and Pearlie, Murdock may soon face justice, western style. There are a few other well-known characters that enter the fracas just when Smoke needs them. But beware, Sally Jensen isn’t just sitting around waiting for her man to come home; she is no wallflower!
Once again, I enjoyed reading how Smoke, Sally and some of their hands face an opponent with wit and then lead, if necessary. Sally is one of my favorite Johnstone characters as she releases her man to do what he feels must be done but stays close by if he needs her. The Jensens make the world better by making friends and helping when they face what appear to be insurmountable odds. Whether you’ve read many Smoke Jensen adventures or none, grab a copy and a few hours to enjoy another fast-paced cowboy tale!
