" Contes pour les bibliophiles" le recueil dans lequel ce livret était paru originellement en 1894 annonçait la couleur dès le titre: l'histoire du livre, pour l'auteur, est un conte. Elle imagine un autre moyen d'accès à la littérature qui supplanterait le livre et invente en quelque sorte l'I-pod du futur: une bibliothèque sonore où on écouterait les livres. Pour elle le livre papier n'aura pas un grand avenir: il est intéressant de considérer cette vision des choses dans le contexte actuel.

Octave Uzanne (1851-1931), escritor, editor y bibliófilo publicó el ensayo El fin de los libros por primera vez en 1894. En una velada que transcurre en Londres, el autor y un grupo de amigos debaten sobre cómo será el mundo del siglo XXI. Ante la sorpresa general, Uzanne vaticina el final del libro "tal y como lo conocemos" en beneficio de otras opciones más cómodas y manejables.
