This is the second in the Kane Chronicles series, which follow Sadie and Carter Kane, who descend from two lines of Egyptian pharaohs and are magicians. As in the first one, it is told as a transcription of a tape recording made by Carter and Sadie. Its exactly what I expected, having read the first in this series, and the Percy Jackson series. Smart banter between the teens, the appearances of several Egyptian gods, some embracing the modern world. Its a fun read with some good action points, and some snarky humor. Fans of the Percy Jackson series won't be disappointed in these turns with the Egyptian pantheon. ( )

Better than the first one in the series but still no Percy Jackson. ( )

Another action packed adventure from Uncle Rick. Sadie reminds me of Percy and I kept wondering while reading this "What if those two ever quested together?" I'm sure it would be a complete disaster. LOL.

Going into this book I thought it was going to be the traditional transition piece that most middle novels of trilogies are and expected the end to be a cliffhanger that would force me to jump right into the last book immediately. It's not. There's more things to accomplish, sure. But it has a satisfactory ending for the part of the story that it tells ( )

Loved it...with all the Egyptian mythology intertwined in the book. ( )

Book description
Excerpt from the dust jacket: "Ever since the gods of ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister Sadie have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command; but the devious gods haven't given them time to master their skills at Brooklyn House; a training ground for young magicians. And now their most threatening enemy yet - the Chaos snake, Apophis - is rising. If they don't prevent him from breaking free in a few days' time, the world will end. In other words, it's a typical week for the Kane family."
