It took me a while to tie this book to the previous book in the series as opposed to other books with similar themes but once I had done so it was a fascinating portrait of Caesar during the conquest of Gaul, and by no means a complementary one.

However, the character of Fronto bothers me. Despite frequent binges, he is never, ever, wrong, which is starting to get on my nerves a bit. ( )
