Although Casey is easy to read and a lot easier to understand this particular horse always got under my skin. He always had to have his way, threw a fit if he didn't get his way and just acted like he was better than anyone else (sounds like children most definitely of this generation). And yet it was his silly commands or doings that took the book to its end.
And the message that it carried then now pertains as much to today's youth although I don't think keeping a pet should be an excuse to not hanging with your friends or getting rid of a pet so you can do more of what you want to do instead of having to shoulder responsibility.
Even with its age this is a great book for starting readers that will be quick for them to read and enjoy while the quaint pictures definitely add to the story. ( )
