Heinrich von Kleist (1777 - 1811) gilt als der modernste Klassiker der deutschen Literatur. Sein Tod – der legendäre Selbstmord am Berliner Wannsee – jährte sich am 21. November 2011 zum 200. Mal. Seine Dramen wie „Der zerbrochene Krug” und Novellen wie „Das Erdbeben von Chile“ werden heute noch gespielt und gelesen. Peter Michalzik, Theaterkritiker und Redakteur der Frankfurter Rundschau, veröffentlichte im Jubiläumsjahr eine Biografie Kleists, die besonders die Beziehungen Kleists zu seinen Zeitgenossen, darunter auch Goethe, und das politische und gesellschaftliche Umfeld berücksichtigt. »Leserfreundlich geschrieben, ausgezeichnet recherchiert« urteilte „DIE LITERARISCHE WELT“ am 5.3.2011. Im Artikel „Kleist ist tot, es lebe Kleist!“ werden die Veranstaltungen und Websites zum Jubiläumsjahr vorstellt (Lettisch und Deutsch auf der Website des Goethe-Instituts Riga).
