This book was about an elephant baker who was so busy working all day in her bakery that she had not time to celebrate her own birthday or even make herself a cake. Every night she would leave out a slice of cake for the mice and little did she know she was in for a big surprise. The mice came in and made her a cake while she was sleeping and she was so happy to wake up to a celebration. The central message of this story is that although we may run out of time or forget to celebrate our own birthdays our friends are always there to pick us back up again and make sure we enjoy our birthdays. ( ) The baker ("pastry chef") goes to bed after a hard day's work which was actually on her birthday that she didn't get to celebrate. While she's sleeping mice prepare her a birthday cake. The baker (an elephant) awakens from the smell to find a surprise, jumbled cake for her to eat as a birthday. A very touching story about friendship and an unexpected birthday. A really cute story for children. The pastry chef was exhausted after a long day at work. She went to bed, sadly, realizing that, although the day was her birthday, she had had no cake. After nightfall, five mice appear in the bakery and mix up a beautiful birthday cake for the pastry chef. “Her eyelids flitter-fluttered, She smiled a little bit: ‘This dream smells sweet as crème brulee… But who is baking it?’” A fun little story about surprising those who do so much for us. no reviews | add a review
