Could see the movie while I read: is Hugh Grant too old for this one? ;-) ( ) I love Sophie Kinsella's books and I think this one might be my favorite. Laugh out loud funny, emotionally satisfying, romantic, and characters who feel real. Ms. Kinsella has such a knack for finding those perfect character moments (Poppy's rule for life! Sam's response!). -- (1) Loved the footnotes too! Another great pairing of Sophie Kinsella and Jayne Entwistle! Jayne really captures the characters in her reading of this fun story about a young British physiotherapist engaged to be married in a matter of weeks to a man she's known a matter of months. Things get interesting from the start when her engagement ring goes missing and her cell phone is yanked from her hand by a thieving bicyclist as she's hailing a taxi. Admittedly light Summer reading (or listening) chick lit., I found this to be a fun listen. Poppy Wyatt is excited about her upcoming wedding to wealthy and famous Magnus Tavish, but before that can happen, she must find the heirloom engagement ring that she lost during a hotel fire drill. When her phone is stolen, she picks up one left in a trash bin that belongs to a business owned by Sam Roxton. What follows is a lot of miscommunication due to Poppy receiving and answering messages from that phone. As Poppy tries to find ways around revealing the loss of her engagement ring, she suffers doubts about her upcoming marriage. I've Got Your Number might appear to be a whacky rom-com by some, but for me, it wasn't funny or romantic. Poppy is an unlikable character that sticks her nose into Sam's business, while she lies to Magnus and his family about her missing ring. The story is admittedly fast-paced with lots of silliness, but by the end, it doesn't seem that Poppy or Sam have really learned anything. Overall, I've Got Your Number is a huge disappointment as it is a book I was expecting to love. The book was cute in a typical chick lit sorta way, but was to me missing the Kinsella spin and uniqueness. It was still a good ride, but my expectations from Kinsella were higher. no reviews | add a review

After she loses her engagement ring and her phone is stolen during a hotel fire drill, Poppy Wyatt, discovering an abandoned phone in a trash can, crashes into the life of the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton, when she uses his phone to make her wedding preparations. I 've lost it. The only thing in the world I wasn't supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It has been in Magnus's family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I've lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive! Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her "happily ever after" begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect! Well, perfect except that the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn't agree. He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life. What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other's lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents, she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.
