The noose tightens around Mafia don Stefano Marino's neck. While Silvio Spadaro goes on the offensive and attacks the Russian mobsters who threaten Stefano's power, mutiny is brewing in Stefano's crime family. His underboss, Augusto Viero, challenges his leadership. Soon it becomes clear that nobody - except maybe Silvio - can be trusted. But Silvio's very presence may destroy everything Stefano holds dear - his standing in the Mafia, the respect of his men, and, last but not least, his marriage. When Silvio's brother Franco returns from the French Foreign legion, a skilled sniper is certainly welcome in the middle of all-out gang war, but two Spadaros might be a lot more than Stefano can handle.… (more)

This series was very difficult for me to make my way through. I kept reading expecting it to improve. There are no happy endings here. This series showcases the darker side of the BDSM scene. There is a lot of non-consensual sexual violence between men. The sub in this book is so twisted up and torn up emotionally that he cannot tell what is healthy and what is not. The dom in this book is almost completely unconcerned with the emotional and psychological health of his sub, and actually twists those needs around to suit his own ends, without regard to the effect this will have on his sub. This series depicts a very violent and unhealthy aspect of BDSM. If you have experienced sexual violence, I would strongly recommend staying away from this series. ( )

And my purring continues. I'm getting my ears scratched by Aleks.

Damn that shit Silvio and all his mystery. He's becoming more and more intriguing and I hope that Battista's echo or imprint finally does leave him. The last line in Dark Whisper impacted me more than almost the entire story.

Dark Night was simply beautiful. So many layers of emotion with enough action and questions to set up the next installment. ( )

Spoiler Free - Just quotes.

Fear, isolation, longing. The gripping first scene is tender and mental and erotic as hell.

"I'll never forget turning you into a lover."

I think the term "God-father" takes on a whole new meaning when Voinov applies it. Gianbattista fills that roll for Silvio carnally, mentally and spiritually. Their profane relationship is quite intriguing and a bit wrenching. Do you want to see reparation or separation? And, who do you really feel for here? Intriguing.

"the strength and steadiness in that body -- that was exactly what Stefano craved now. That strength, that barely contained dark energy in Silvio".

Hints and teases and glimpses. Yes, this is still building into a powerfully driven, intense ride of a series. Voinov's command of character building drives my need for more. Plus, there is an underlying current of manipulation and violence that has yet to come clear.

Voinov's writing fascinates me.

“Me, I'm going to write ass-kicking trans* characters. I think I might end up writing not a single thing that is "pure" by some people's standards. Just because, and because I can.”
― Aleksandr Voinov
