Sean, the Irish man builds his house on top of the leprechauns. Brian the leprechaun tries to scare him away. When Sean hears noises under his bed, he is too scared to look. He blames the noised on the non-existent cat. Brian, a leprechaun, works tirelessly under the bed. Brian and Sean form a friendship by helping each other out. Sean leaves food for Brian and when times are rough Brian leaves a gold coin for Sean. Rumors fly around the town that Sean is hiding gold in his house. Two robbers break in and begin to search for the gold, just as Sean is arriving home. The robbers hear a noise and Sean tells them that it is just the cat under the bed. In disbelief, the robbers look under the bed and discover a mean vicious cat and run away. Brian the leprechaun turned into the invisible cat in order to protect himself and Sean. From the dialogue in the text to the traditional illustrations this Irish culture remains constant throughout the pages. The story reveals the power of friendship, loyalty, protection, and a wee bit of luck. ( )
