When Paige MacKenzie arrives in Jackson Hole, her only goal is to complete a simple newspaper assignment about the Old West. However, it's not long before her instincts tell her there's more than a basic story to be found in the popular, northwestern Wyoming mountain area. A chance encounter with attractive cowboy Jake Norris soon has Paige chasing a legend of buried treasure, passed down through generations. From the torn edge of a water-damaged map to the mysterious glow of an antler arch, Paige will follow clues high into the mountainous terrain and deep into Jackson's history. Side-stepping a few shady characters who are also searching for the same hidden reward, she will have to decide who is trustworthy and who is not.… (more)

Paige MacKenzie is on assignment in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to give the east coast readership of The Manhattan Post a different perspective than promoting tourism, flavoring it with historical research and information only the locals might have to share. A story highlighting the Old West may be accentuated by Jake Norris, a fairly new ranch owner outside of town. Somehow that handsome cowboy should become part of the article or does Paige simply want an excuse to meet him?

Armchair travelers will find the setting picturesque and be immersed in the area's beauty with descriptions of weather in constant change and stunning vistas of Grand Teton National Park, trails, and mountains. Those who have traveled to the area will refresh their memories with the addition of local history never revealed in any history book. The characters are interesting, and my favorite was Dan McElroy, a furniture craftsman using lodgepole pine.

Readers that enjoy cozy mysteries without murder will find intrigue in the mystery of buried treasure. Is the story passed down through the generations true or false?

I selected this book as part of a 50 States Reading Challenge and recognized the author's name from The Moonglow Christmas series set in the small town of Timberton, Montana. The author excels at creating magical stories, and the opening of this series is no exception. ( )

Very slow to start, finally at 37% something happened! Unfortunately, too little too late I lost interest and ended up just skimming to the end. A travelogue of Jackson, Wyoming. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book. When I first started reading it, I really wasn't sure where it was going. After that, it seemed to move very quickly. I mean, she found a handsome cowboy and went after buried treasure. It was a very cute mystery book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes quick reading mysteries.

13 of 75 for 2015. In Above the Bridge, Deborah Garner reminds us that just because a book is a mystery, it doesn't mean there has to be a murder. Set in the historic Wyoming town of Jackson, the story follows journalist Paige MacKenzie who has come out from New York to research an article about ... well that's just it. What will her research reveal? Toss in a handsome single man, a mysterious supernatural glow, and the Grand Tetons, and you have the makings of a very enjoyable read. Parts of the story are just too weird to retell, but hey, whatever works. It's a fun read. ( )
