Rezeda is another rather transparent Krudy avatar, a bibulous literary man involved in sequence of affairs in Budapest as Europe drifts towards WWI. The atmosphere is as rich as ever, though the melancholy is sharp and this is nearer to the realistic register of The Crimson Coach or Ladies' Day than the dreamlike flight of The Adventures of Sindbad or Sunflower. The translation flows well, though I could have done without the odd anachronistic Americanism, and it's a nicely designed paperback. ( ) no reviews | add a review
