Loved the premise of a long-lost niece (Hester) of renowned chemist Dr. Henry Jekyll (from Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) unexpectedly showing up in London and the process of her discovering her identity, but the narrative was unexpectedly slow. Most readers today know the basic story of Jekyll and Hyde, even if they haven't read the original, so there wasn't any suspense in spinning out the mysterious relationship between the two men. I was impatient for Hester to figure all that out and for the story to move on. There was an interesting subplot involving the Salvation Army. A decent read, but not a keeper.
