Since I read the first part of this series (Her Mad Hatter), and utterly adored it, I could hardly wait to read the second story.
Whilst not as gut-wrenchingly romantic as the first part (or maybe I just liked Hatter a bit more than Gerard), it was still beautiful. I sooooo love this series!.
Some minor problems with this instalment however. There were a couple of mistakes in the French (mon instead of ma etc), the author didn't know the difference between anime and manga (which is on of my major pet peeves), and one or two editing errors. ( )

We've all seen Beauty and the Beast. What if, Gaston had been maligned and was actually the good guy? In Gerard's Beauty, this is exactly what Hall proposes. Gerard, had fallen in love with Belle, doting on her, and doing her bidding at all times. Belle however had other ideas and instead of being with the man that was supposedly good for her, she fell for the Beast because he was rich, leaving Gerard alone and in misery. Gerard was heartbroken and believed his life could not get any worse but then a princess threw herself at him and now the entire kingdom wants to exact revenge for his manwhorish ways. Luckily for Gerard, his fairy godmother has a plan. If Gerard can somehow make his true love, fall in love with him in thirty days, he can win his freedom and spare his life.

I don't know why I keep punishing myself by reading these re-writes of fairy tales. I've only read one series that's been good, yet I keep taking another bite out of the apple in the hope that this feat can be repeated. Gerard's Beauty is an epic failure. I suppose some of this is my fault because what good has ever come from a cover with man titteh? I know that paranormal romance is all about a couple falling in love but it usually comes with some version of a plot - something to make you want to root for the HEA but I simply couldn't get through this fast enough.

Gerard, the protagonist is an asshole. There's no other way to put it. He's actually not far from being an incel and that's creepy as fuck. Gerard spends a lot of time up in his feelings because Beauty chose another man and made him feel stupid because she is smarter than him. The man is actually illiterate but because he felt that it was unmanly to read, he never took the time to learn. So, Beauty's biggest crime is simply deciding that she wanted to be with someone else and didn't return the love he felt for her. Gerard is an empty headed ass who thinks that he's entitled to women's bodies. Of course, this belief is bolstered by the fact that every woman wants to throw herself at him because of his super hot bod and breathe that smells like brandy (ewww). Even the head fairy godmother is angry at him because of his rejection of her.

Gerard is sent to earth to claim the heart of Betty, who is just getting over a broken heart thanks to getting involved with a playa. Betty supposedly is taking a break from men in order to regroup but when Gerard shows up outside of the library where she works, looking like a homeless man, Betty suddenly cannot resist him because he's so damn hot. When Betty realises that Gerard doesn't have a place to sleep and the weather is inclement, she decides to take him home. Look, I get looking out for someone who has less and is potentially vulnerable but who takes them home because they're horny?

Gerard is sent to earth by his fairy godmother to buy time while she intervenes with the citizens of fairy world (for lack of a better term) because they are upset that he may have despoiled a princess. Gerard of course claims his innocence and argues that the "coquine" threw herself at him and he rejected her, leaving her purity in tact. Yes, coquine is french for slut. Slut, skank and whore are words that Hall uses repeatedly in this short book to refer to women. In 188 pages, Hall manages to slut shame female characters ten times.

Another good book in this series. Retelling of Beauty and the Beast (sort of) complete with grumpy, gorgeous man (with sexy accent, no less), a hot, nerdy librarian, and Danika... I just adore Danika! Can't wait for Wolf & Red's story! ( )

This was the 3rd in the Kingdom Series novellas that I have read by this author (although the second in the series) and it did not disappoint. With her clever twisting of the traditional faerie tale, incorporating pop culture references, humor and a last chance effort for the faerie godmother to the “bad boys of the tales” to match her boys with their soulmates, the chase is now on for Gerard.

In a twisting of the Beauty and the Beast, Gerard is the ultimate bad boy beast, with enough cracks in his armor to make him huggable, even at his worst. Betty has a great heart, but was very reluctant to trust in another man: let alone one with Gerard’s track record. Danika believes that these two are just perfect for one another and tricks, cajoles, browbeats and gloats as the story proceeds.

Marie Hall’s stories will grab your interest quickly, with characters that you will recognize as believable even with the magical elements. Conversations sparkle and attitudes are clearly defined, humor is liberally sprinkled throughout: usually in the heroine’s voice and observations. I had, back in 2012 called her one of my favorite authors to read – and nothing has changed. While this book will stand alone without the reader losing plot points or being confused , you will want to (and I suggest that you do) pick up the other installments in the series.

Every Beast needs his Beauty.

The story is fun, fast paced, and shows that opposites really do attract. I really enjoyed reading about these misunderstood characters. Unlike the classic fairytales that have a charming prince and a perfect beauty this one give some light to the ones who have been given a bad rap and were always destined for a sad ending. I think this story really shows that everyone deserves a happy ending and that if you give it a chance love can heal even the deepest of wounds.

Gerard is a real Beast and will no doubt have many readers wondering why he should even deserve Betty. I liked the fact that he didn’t seem to be a great hero at first because it just gives more credence to the idea that you must look deeper and get to know someone before you can really see the true hero within.

Betty was a sweet and yet bitter heroine. She had her share of untrustworthy men and didn’t want to chance another failed relationship, especially with Gerard. I really liked her character. She was feisty and yet had a kind heart that allowed her to see the beauty within people even if it took a bit of time to find it. She was definitely someone I could see as a friend.
The romance was fun and so sweet. I had a great time seeing these two finally open up and give love a chance. Gerard’s pursuit of Betty was really nice to see as well, especially after all of his declarations that he would never fall in love LOL.

These two characters are exactly what the other does not want and yet they are exactly what they both need. This story puts a whole new spin on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast and fans are sure to love this new story and its unforgettable characters.

This is a wonderful new take on a beloved classic that Beauty and the Beast fans are sure to enjoy as well as anyone who likes a good fantasy romance. ( )
